Clockshop & CA State Parks are hosting Community & Unity, the 2nd Annual People’s Kite Festival

Clockshop and California State Parks are hosting Community & Unity, the second annual People’s Kite Festival, on Saturday, May 21, 2022 from 2 pm – 6pm, at the Los Angeles State Historic Park, next to historic Chinatown.

THIS EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. OPTIONAL DONATION WITH EVENTBRITE RSVP.

This family-friendly cultural festival will serve as an opportunity to bring together diverse communities in Los Angeles through the art of kite making and a day full of joy, culture, and uplift through the arts. In collaboration with the American Kiteflyers Association it will feature a “gallery in the sky,” including flying demonstrations with kite masters Kim Wong and the Tyrus Wong Family, Scott Skinner, and Joe Hadzicki; natural fabric dyeing workshops with artist Carly Lake, design/printmaking workshops with Yuju Yeo and Dewey Tafoya, and paper crafts with the Chinese American Museum; and musical performances with DJ Gui Spina, Johny Miguel Trombone and Electronics, and the Changui Majadero band. Food and refreshments will be available from CARGO Snack Shack and some of LA’s finest food trucks.

Artist Audrey Chan will create three unique kite designs in collaboration with kitemaster Scott Skinner that will be unveiled at the event and will reference both the social histories of LA State Historic Park as well as serve as a rallying cry to preserve public land for future generations. 

This event is designed as a community celebration honoring the communities surrounding LASHP that fought for and stewarded this public park land, recognizing their resilience, cultural histories, and aspirations. Families are invited to come and spend the day in this beautiful setting, with the opportunity to fly their own kites, work on their own artful prints, and watch some wondrous kites take to the skies.

Segundo Festival Popular de Cometas de Clockshop Comunidad y Unidad  / Sábado 21 de mayo de 2022  / 2 – 6pm

Clockshop y los Parques Estatales de California serán los anfitriones de Comunidad y Unidad, nuestro segundo Festival Popular de Cometas, el sábado 21 de mayo 2022 de 2 pm a 6 pm, en el Parque Histórico Estatal de Los Ángeles, al lado de Chinatown.

Este festival cultural para toda la familia,  servirá como una oportunidad de reunir a diversas comunidades de Los Ángeles mediante la construcción de papalotes y un día lleno de alegría, cultura e inspiración por las artes.  En colaboración con la Asociación Americana de Cometas, incluiremos una “galería en el cielo”, con demostraciones a cargo de maestros de papalotes Kim Wong y la Familia Tyrus Wong, Scott Skinner y Joe Hadzicki; tendremos talleres de tintura natural de tejidos con la artista Carly Lake, talleres de diseño/grabado con Yuiu Yeo y Dewey Tafoya, y artesanías de papel con el Chinese American Museum; habrá música a cargo de DJ Gui Spina, Johny Miguel Trombone & Electronics y la banda Changui Majadero.  La comida será proporcionada por CARGO Snack Shack en el Parque Histórico Estatal de Los Ángeles. 

La artista Audrey Chan creará tres diseños de cometas únicos junto con el papalotero Scott Skinner. Estos serán revelados en el evento, y harán referencia a la historia social del Parque Histórico Estatal de Los Ángeles. A su vez serán un elemento de unidad para las generaciones futuras y la conservación de terrenos públicos.

Este evento está diseñado como una celebración colectiva que honra a las comunidades alrededor de LASHP. Estas comunidades lucharon y fueron las guías de este terreno público, que es el parque. Reconocemos su resiliencia, sus historias culturales y sus aspiraciones. Familias son bienvenidas para que pasen el día en este hermoso entorno, con la oportunidad de volar sus propios cometas, trabajar en sus grabados propios y ver volar otros cometas maravillosos.

Clockshop機構第二屆 社區與團結 民衆風箏節, 2022 年 5 月 21 日星期六, 下午 2 – 6 時
